1928-2014 CANAAN - Melvina E. Daggett, 85, of Canaan, passed away April 22, 2014, at her home with her family and friends by her side. Born in Washburn, June 9, 1928, she was the daughter of John and Nettie (Kennard) Wilcox. She was educated in Washburn schools. She married Chester F. Daggett on May 27, 1967, in Portland. She worked for Woolworth's Department Store in Presque Isle and then in Portland for 15 years. Following Woolworth's she worked for Norrwock Shoe Co., in Norridgewock, for 14 years, which is now New Balance. She loved spending time with her family. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Chester, of Canaan; a stepson, Chester Daggett, of Hollywood, Fla.; one sister, Winnefred Brown, of Caribou; one aunt, Velma Allan, of Florida; along with several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and -nephews Melvina was predeceased by three sisters, Geneiviev Boyne, Juanita Beauleau and Dea Anderson, one brother, Thomas Wilcox.

A graveside service will take place at Fairview Cemetery in Canaan at a later date. Arrangements are under the care of Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan.
