Janet Safford Daigle died May 12, 2026. She was born on December 11, 1934, in Farmington, Maine, the daughter of Verne and Florence (Taylor) Safford. Janet considered Dead River her home and was very happy to live there and spent her eighth-grade year attending school in Flagstaff. She graduated from Madison High School in 1953. She attended x-ray school at Seton Hospital and worked at Thayer Hospital to obtain her RT degree. After taking a few years off to raise children, she worked for 31 years in the radiology department at Redington-Fairview General Hospital. In 1955, she married Vallair Daigle with whom she shared 53 years of happiness. Vallair died in 2008. They were the parents of seven children. Val and Jan shared many wonderful years raising their children, often including family and friends in their gatherings. The Christmas parties with the Taylor aunts and uncles were some of the happiest memories of all. Janet was a communicant of Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church in Skowhegan. She was an associate of the Sisters of the Assumption. For a number of years, she wrote a column about her family and faith for The Church World. She continued to write memories for her family. After her retirement, she and Val spent a great deal of time in Jackman where they enjoyed fishing, ATV riding, and the beauty of the area. They found many friends who were always glad to visit over a cup of coffee. She is survived by her children: Kim and husband Peter Willette, Laurie and husband Joel Violette, Verne and wife Irene, Lisa and husband John Jardin, Colleen and husband Matt Walker, Rose and husband Derek Adams, Valerie and husband Michael Vigue; thirteen grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren. Also surviving are special adopted family members Lisa and Gil Rosebrook, their children, and grandchildren; along with in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. A funeral Mass will be held on June 9th at 11:00 AM at Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church. Immediately following the Mass, the family would like to invite everyone for a gathering at the T&B Celebration Center in Skowhegan. Burial will be in New Flagstaff Cemetery in Eustis at a later date.
