Obituary

Skowhegan – Gordon Herbert Bickford, 78, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side.

Gordon was born on March 9, 1948, in Parsonsfield, Maine, the son of Geraldine (Cross) and Gordon C. Bickford. He graduated from Porter High School in 1966 and proudly joined the United States Navy in 1969. Gordon served four years aboard the USS Columbus (CG-12) as an electrician, traveling the world.

After returning home from the Navy, Gordon worked for several local mills and factories until earning his electrician’s license. In 1983, he moved to Skowhegan, where he worked for Traverse Electric. Over the years, he also drove oil delivery and wood chip trucks, worked for NRF Distributors for five years, and later worked at GE in Pittsfield until retiring when the plant closed.

Gordon enjoyed deer and bird hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family at their camper on Moosehead Lake. In later years, he took pride in his yard work and enjoyed watching NASCAR races, doing puzzles, and telling stories about his adventures aboard ship in the Navy.

Gordon was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Marlene Derau Bickford.

He is survived by his companion of 44 years, Margaret Jacobs; his daughter, Corinna Jacobs, and her companion, Pete Dellarma; his grandsons, Cody Cook and Colt Spofford; his brother, Ray Bickford Sr.; his sister, Donna Day, and her husband, Raymond Day; and his nieces and nephews, Amanda Day, Marie Briggs, Ray Bickford Jr., Mason Day, Travis Day, Terry Seilonen, and Timmy Derau.

A burial will be held at Maplewood Cemetery in Parsonsfield, ME on May 28th at 2:00PM.

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to Home-Based Primary Care with the VA Maine Healthcare System, Palliative Care, Beacon Hospice (an Amedisys company), and Visiting Angels of Farmington for their compassionate care and support.
