Forrest “Doc” York, passed away at his Cornville home May 20, 2017. He was born at the family’s home in Cornville on December 4, 1935, the son of Forrest C. York and Helen Isabel (Osborn) York. He graduated from Bloomfield Academy in Skowhegan, Maine, before serving his country in the US Army as a paratrooper. Doc married M. Joyce Pottle on June 28, 1958 and started his working career at the Hartland Tannery while they converted a one room school house into their family home. He went on to work as a weaver at local factories. In his last years, before retirement he worked as a handyman. Doc was a prankster and had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to have fun. He also enjoyed dancing. He was predeceased by his parents, his wife M. Joyce in 1985, his daughter Kelly York, and his siblings, Florence Bacon and Sylvia Sala. He is survived by his sons, Bruce York of Cornville, Steven York and his husband Sothy Lam of San Francisco; his siblings, David York and his wife Rhonda of Madison, Mary Wyman and her husband Elwood of Canaan; his grandchildren, Jessica Evans and her husband Sam, Sheyenne York; his great-grandchildren, Judah, Hannah, Adilee and many nieces, nephews, cousins and a large extended family. Viewing hours will be held on Wednesday May 24, 2017 from 12 to 2 p.m. at the Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan, Maine. A graveside will follow at the E. Ridge Cemetery in Cornville, Maine. A reception will follow at Doc’s homestead.
