Diane M. Holbrook, 77, of Smithfield passed away on Sunday July 8, 2012 in Waterville, Maine surrounded by her family. She was born October 15, 1934 in Waterville, Maine, the daughter of John and Lucille (LaChance) Macklin. She graduated from Thomas College in 1955 She married Herman Holbrook Jr. on April 20, 1964; he passed away on February 24, 2007 after sharing 43 years together. Diane worked as a legal secretary for Attorney Arthur Eaton from 1955 – 1958 and then she was personal secretary for Robert Marden in the law firm of Marden, Dubord, Bernier and Chandler from 1958 – 1987. She enjoyed reading, jigsaw puzzles, knitting, doing crafts, working her flower gardens. She loved spending time with her family. She is survived by her daughter Esther Holbrook of Auburn, five grandchildren; Katrina, Paula, Steve, Daphna, and Michael, fifteen great-grandchildren, her best friend and cousin; Janice Phair of Waterville, her aunt Alverine M. Fortier of Waterville and several cousins. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, and one son Gregory Holbrook. Viewing hours will be held on Thursday July 12, 2012 from 6 to 7 p.m. at Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan, Maine, with a celebration of life to follow at the funeral home at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Bert Brewster officiating. An internment service will be held on Wednesday July 18, 2012 at 1 p.m. at the Village Cemetery in Smithfield, Maine. Donations may be made in Diane’s memory to a charity of one’s own choice.
