SKOWHEGAN - Constance "Connie" Kollar, 73, passed away peacefully with her family at her side on April 4, 2014. She was born in Anson on Aug. 26, 1940, the daughter of Clementine and Almon "Red" Brown. Connie was raised in the Anson/Madison area and spent most of her adult life in the Skowhegan area. Connie worked at Medwed Footwear and Solon Manufacturing. Prior to her retirement she provided in-home care to the elderly in the area. She was a member of St. Albans Grange 114 and the Newport Senior Citizens. Connie loved dancing and music, especially bluegrass music. She enjoyed getting out for a drive and dining out. Connie also had a fondness for WWE wrestling. She was an easy going woman who was generous to a fault. She would go without just to help someone else, and she frequently visited area nursing homes. Connie was predeceased by her husband, Andrew Kollar Jr., and her parents. She is survived by her daughter, Ann Merrill and husband Jason; sister, Ginny Barbeau and husband Mickey; brother, Ivan Brown and wife Cheryl; nephews, Ivan Brown Jr. and Phillip Barbeau; nieces, Shelley Wehry and Cindy Worthen; companion, Reggie Eells; canine companion, Buddy; and dear friends, Donna Lovely, Crystal Avery, Avis and Wayne Collins, Roberta Lesard, and Rose Woodard. Family and friends are invited to visit from 1 p.m. until the time of services on Wednesday, April 9, 2014, at Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan, where a funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Mark Tanner officiating. In honor of Connie's love of animals, memorial donations may be made to Somerset Humane Society, P.O. Box 453, Skowhegan, ME 04976. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Smart & Edwards Funeral Home.
